How to Build a Thomas Train Table

Free Thomas the Train Table Plans

Building a train table can be fun especially if it’s a Thomas Train Table. For about $30 in materials from most large home improvement centers, you can easily construct or build your own Thomas Train Table, which can also serve as table for crafts and games.

This train table will be very strong and pleasant looking. The best part is the legs can be removed and replaced with longer legs as the toddlers grow you can extend the use of the table by switching out the legs. This project should take a few hours to complete working at a nice slow pace.

Instructions for how to build the Thomas Train Table

First cut the 1" x 4" and 1" x 3" into 4 pieces each to a size of 23.25" (24" - (3/4)"). The 3/4" is for the table top.
Glue one piece of 1 x 3 to one piece of 1 x 4 and nail them. Use clamps to hold them tight.
Repeat this process for the other legs.

To build the frame around the table top. Cut the remaining two 1 x 4 into four pieces and two of them a little over '24 inches' and the other two a little over '48 inches'.

The purpose for cutting them longer is because you will need to cut them at a 45 degree angle.

You want the frame around the table top to be 1/2 inch above. So place something below the plywood, which is 1/2 inch in thickness. This will elevate it.

Apply glue around the plywood and join the four pieces. Use wood clamps to hold them and nail them together. You could use screws if you prefer.

You can apply polyurethane afterwards to give it a glossy look.
